Insectum
Debut Furniture & Objects & Light as an Installation at Alcova in Milan
June 05 - June 12th, 2022
“INSECTUM” is an immersive, multi-sensory experience that celebrates the beauty of the insect world.
“INSECTUM” features Kickie’s limited edition of furniture, objects and lighting inspired by geometric anatomies of insects that brings awareness to their worldwide decline by celebrating their beauty.
“INSECTUM” is a visceral sanctuary that sparks a new appreciation for these vital species and vibrant ecosystem beneath (and above) our feet through the power of design.
The idea for “INSECTUM” originates by a life-long admiration and Kickie’s deep fascination with insects and the valuable roles they play in our existence.
Given recent published scientific reports*, which state that 40% of insect species are currently threatened by extinction, Kickie’s objective in her investigation is twofold: To raise awareness about their decline and elicit newfound appreciation for insect biodiversity by celebrating their beauty.
The title, ‘INSECTUM,’ means to ‘cut up or divide into segments’ in Latin and represents Kickie’s varied deployment of unique geometries, forms, shapes, materialities, and scales that interpret the insect world.
The collection consists of six limited edition pieces of furniture and lighting inspired by the lives and geometric anatomies of insects: From two glass stained windows, to a rug, a mini bar, an armchair and a pendant lamp..
